Job Summary:

Performs a variety of technical procedures in the use of Magnetic Resonance and Computed Tomography equipment for the diagnosis of human diseases. Provides appropriate patient care to infants through adult patients (including geriatrics). Adheres to all safety practices required to provide a safe environment for patients and staff. Actively supports all of Lumina Imaging operations. Demonstrates outstanding customer service and ensures a positive patient experience during all facets of the visit. Responsibilities

Contributes to patient safety by:

  • Providing a safe environment for patients.
  • Reporting safety concerns, errors and near misses.
  • Participating in system improvement initiatives to prevent errors.
  • Providing evidence-based care as applicable to the role.

1. Performs a variety of procedures related to the use of Magnetic Resonance Imaging equipment and Computed Tomography equipment, including:

  • Reviewing physicians’ instructions to determine necessary procedure.
  • Consulting radiologist and/or physician regarding examinations and scan protocols, as necessary.
  • Positioning patients, initiating proper scan parameters and utilizing appropriate equipment.
  • Performing daily safety, quality control and visual maintenance checks on scanner and coils; referring problems to manager or lead technologist.
  • Transferring and archiving images to PACS in adherence to CT or MRI protocols.
  • Reviewing magnetic resonance images and computed tomography images for proper identification, positioning and Window/level techniques.
  • Referring complex situations to manager or lead technologist, recommending appropriate solutions.

2. Provides appropriate patient services by:

  • Screening patients per defined policies (contrast form and MRI screening form) and obtaining proper patient history.
  • Introducing self to patient and explaining MRI procedure or CT procedure, attempting to lessen discomfort and define procedure.
  • Describing time requirements of requested examinations.
  • Assisting with the transportation of patients to and from wheel chairs, carts and scanning tables.
  • Preparing and administering contrast media, under the direction of a physician, as needed.
  • Administering first aid/CPR in emergency situations and initiating emergency services as needed.

3. Performs computer functions as needed:

  • RIS
  • PACS
  • CAD
  • EPIC
  • all other third-party software needed for the performance of duties.

4. Ensures appropriate patient registration, scheduling, and discharge as needed by:

  • Obtaining accurate information from the patient or representative.
  • Preparing and processing the required forms (visit processing, charge entry, etc.) and obtaining the necessary signatures.
  • Integrating payor issues with patient needs
  • Scheduling appointments and ancillary services based on Lumina protocols and providing preparation instructions as applicable.
  • Performs patient check in within EMR and RIS

5. Ensures scan room, work station and computer console are neat, orderly, accurately supplied and dated (as necessary). Maintains and rotates supplies and inventory.

6. Assists physicians and administrator as required; assists in handling all confidential matters.

7. May assist in the coordination and allocation of departmental workflow and participates in departmental activities as required.

8. Service Delivery Expectations:

  • Suggests improvements and participates in organized efforts to improve service levels.

9. Works effectively as a team member by offering support and/or ideas to enable the group to reach group goals. Uses collaborative approach to problem solving. Orients employees to practice operations as requested.

10. May perform routine office procedures as needed.

11. Keeps abreast of technological development via meetings and seminars.

13. Performs other functionally related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology program.
  • Registered Radiology Technologist with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
  • At least 1 year of MR or CT scanning experience
  • Possesses ARRT MR credential and/or CT credential or obtains within the following period:
  • One credential required within 12 months of hire
  • Second credential within 32 months of hire.
  • BLS Certification from the American Heart Association or obtains during the standard probationary period
  • Thorough knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy
  • Exceptional customer service, communication, and teamwork skills.

Preferred:

  • 2 or more years of experience in either a MR or CT environment performing as a technologist
  • Advanced certification through the ARRT in both MRI and CT

Physical Requirements:

  • May sit, stand, stoop, bend, and ambulate intermittently during the day.
